Inspired by bold typographic layouts and experimental works, she\ncreates work that challenges traditional systems and shines light on untold histories.\nBlending analogue art forms and digital techniques, she uses design as a tool for\nconnection and change.<\/p>\n    <\/div>\n  <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n    <div class=\"btl-project\">\n      <h1 class=\"btl-project-title\">Why Community Matters<\/h1>\n      <p class=\"btl-project-statement\">Why Community Matters is a personal and research driven project\nthat explores the meaning of community through the lens of non-traditional\nskateboarding. Grounded in both academic and field research, this project challenges\ntraditionally male dominated subculture theory and helps share the history of a\ncommunity that has been unjustly ignored.\n<br>\n<br>\nConsisting of an art book, zine, and a video element, Why Community Matters provides\nan in depth look at the history of non-traditional skateboarders as they have negotiated\nfor space and identity. Through interviews with community leaders, experimental\nvisuals, and iconic non-traditional skate videos, this project aims to provide an\noverarching message of the power of community based activities.
