Throughout my college career, I have explored different media and fallen in love with the art of ceramics. Playing with a material that derives from the Earth is a way to teach myself patience, challenge my creativity, and create gifts for loved ones. My favorite concept about art is that there is always more to learn, more to discover about myself, more to express, and more to capture in a piece of art. Like nature, I go through growing and blooming phases, which are things that I like to materialize in my work in order to have a way to look back into who I was, who I am, and who I will become.\n<\/p>\n    <\/div>\n  <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n    <div class=\"btl-project\">\n      <h1 class=\"btl-project-title\">Vuelve, Mezcalita <\/h1>\n      <p class=\"btl-project-statement\">My thesis project will be an exploration of the connection that the moon phases have on the cultivation of agave and its symbolism of cycles within life and death. The project will be a three-tiered ceramic water fountain, in which each tier focuses on a different phase of the moon and aspect of the agave plant. In Mexican culture, the agave plant represents fertility and life, as does the moon. When researching how I could connect these two, I learned that agave harvesting for mezcal is usually done during a full moon. I am very intrigued by the idea that the moon cycles can affect and connect so deeply with the cycles of nature. Through my research, I found the following quote from Eric Willey, the brand ambassador of Moon Shift Mezcal, \u201c&#8230; the moon represents the importance of timing and balance, with cycles of growth and rest. This also aligns with the life cycle of the agave plant and the patience required to produce artisanal agave spirits.\u201d This quote emphasizes the idea that the moon phases can not be rushed, just like our growth. Making this a water sculpture will enhance the symbolism of cyclical energy and rebirth as the water finds its way up towards the full moon and back down to the new moon. The moon and its phases are able to guide me as well through its ritual of repetition and interconnectedness with nature. <br>\n<br>Mi proyecto de tesis ser\u00e1 una exploraci\u00f3n de la conexi\u00f3n entre las fases lunares y el cultivo de agave, y de su simbolismo con los ciclos de la vida y la muerte. El proyecto consistir\u00e1 en una fuente de agua hecha de cer\u00e1mica de tres niveles, en la que cada nivel se centrar\u00e1 en una fase lunar distinta y en un aspecto particular de la planta de agave. En la cultura mexicana, la planta de agave representa la fertilidad y la vida, al igual que la luna. Al investigar c\u00f3mo podr\u00eda vincular estos dos elementos, descubr\u00ed que la cosecha del agave destinado a la producci\u00f3n de mezcal suele realizarse durante la luna llena. Me intriga profundamente la idea de que los ciclos lunares puedan influir en los ciclos de la naturaleza y conectarse con ellos de una manera tan profunda. A lo largo de mi investigaci\u00f3n, encontr\u00e9 la siguiente cita de Eric Willey, embajador de la marca Moon Shift Mezcal: \u201c&#8230;la luna representa la importancia del momento oportuno y del equilibrio, con sus ciclos de crecimiento y descanso. Esto coincide, a su vez, con el ciclo vital de la planta de agave y con la paciencia que exige la elaboraci\u00f3n de destilados de agave artesanales.\u201d Esta cita subraya la noci\u00f3n de que las fases lunares no pueden ser apresuradas, del mismo modo que tampoco puede serlo nuestro propio crecimiento. La realizaci\u00f3n de esta obra como una escultura acu\u00e1tica realzar\u00e1 el simbolismo de la energ\u00eda c\u00edclica y del renacimiento, a medida que el agua asciende hacia la luna llena para luego descender de nuevo hacia la luna nueva.
