My practice centers on exploring cultural identity, self-reflection, and human rights. Through thoughtful use of color, typography, and composition, I aim to create work that not only captures attention but also invites deeper consideration and dialogue. I see design as a tool for advocacy and connection, one that can amplify voices, shared lived experiences, and foster a sense of community. A Cat Among Frogs: a Transracial Adoption Story
A Cat Among Frogs is a cooperative board game created to mimic the transracial adoption experience. Growing up without role models that looked like you, being disconnected to your birth culture, and navigating through everyday micro aggressions sets a unique lifestyle that is under represented.assume the role of an adoptee leaving their home towns to explore the real world. The goal of the game is for players to overcome their mental baggage by interacting with each other and experiencing the world. With the help of their friends, players will navigate through unexpected situations and answer difficult questions.
This game captures mine and many others’ unique upbringing as a transracial adoptee. It portrays the everyday interactions and norms that are unique to our lives such as microaggressions, lack of representation, and constant self questioning. It addresses the hidden effects of early trauma and how it manifests itself into adulthood the importance of growth and human connections. By taking the form of a board game, the project renders what is often perceived as an uncomfortable topic more approachable, ultimately encouraging curiosity. As the idea of family grows more diverse and inclusive, it’s important to challenge the assumptions we place on others’ lived experiences.
