Adulting: a Visual Exploration of the Chaos of Your 20s
Adulting: a Visual Exploration of the Chaos of Your 20’s is my magazine centered around the transition to adulthood that everyone inevitably goes through. Based on the question “how do young adults handle the emotional intensity of transitioning into adulthood”, this zine aims to visually express the chaos and intensity that consumes you at this phase in life.
Though rooted in imagery, my project compiles academic interviews, anonymous surveys,
research projects, and real life experience to convey my overall message – growing up is hard.
Making this magazine while actively living through this phase in life allowed me to bring in my
own personal anecdotes and experience. Becoming an adult is complicated – new responsibilities, feelings you’ve never experienced before, the constant pull between being independent and figuring out your own path but not wanting to accept that your youth is over. The emotional experience of getting older is overwhelming, especially when facing such intense highs and lows in such a condensed amount of time. This publication is my own personal representation of this crucial transition while also validating the experience of others who have gone through this pivotal journey.
