Grounding
Grounding is an interactive and experiential installation that visually explores the concept of
grounding through meditation, nature, and electricity. Rooted in the intangible and spiritual idea
of becoming grounded, the work translates this state into a tangible and somatic experience. It
investigates how grounding can be felt through sensory engagement with touch and spatial
awareness, rather than understood as an abstract idea.
Drawing from both meditative practices and scientific perspectives, the project considers the
body’s relationship to the Earth’s electrical charge often referred to as “earthing”. This concept
suggests that contact with natural electrical energy can support the regulation within the
nervous system. Neuroscience research recognizes meditation as a pathway into a grounded
state, helping reconnect the mind and body, systems that are disconnected in daily life.
Through presence, awareness, and physical interaction, the installation invites participants to slow down and reconnect. A coded light feature powered by electrical input responds to interaction, acting as a visual representation of energy flow and grounding within a space. Participants become active within this nature inspired environment, experiencing themselves as part of an energetic system and becoming their own conductors of energy.
