Angelina Bucu
https://angelinakatlyn.site/Angelina Bucu is a Bay Area–based designer with a focus on clarity, typography, and systems-based thinking. Her practice is grounded in translating complex ideas into strong, accessible visual forms. She is drawn to the relationship between structure, expression and how design decisions, both subtle and large-scale, construct the way we navigate digital environments. Across her work, she aims to create visuals that are thoughtful, intentional, and responsive to how people engage with contemporary media. Her achievements include developing a conceptually driven body of visual work. She strengthens practice through typography, digital media studies, and building thoughtful design outcomes that reflect both research and experimentation. She continues to refine her ability to translate abstract ideas into clear visual systems, while pushing herself to work across both print and digital formats with greater intentionality.
The Shifting Landscape of Social Media
This project is a motion design video that examines how social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram have changed over time. It traces how these platforms have shifted from early, profile-based communication tools into more structured digital environments organized around feeds and curated content. By presenting these changes through a visual timeline, the project aims to make the structure of these platforms more visible and encourage viewers to think more critically about how social media is designed.
These transitions reflect the shifts from user-identity and sought out navigation to platform-controlled attention. Early interfaces allowed users to engage and maintain content with a formidable, more intentional pace with readability. As Facebook and Instagram platforms evolved, visual design became increasingly shaped by the need to capture and retain attention. This resulted in more dense compositions and a prioritization of immediacy over clarity. This progression demonstrates that these social media platforms will never reach a final stage. It instead continues to evolve where each development increasingly aligns user attention and interaction with the platforms’ goals of maximizing engagement, data collection, and profit.
