Kyle De Asis
kyledesignportfolio.com/I am a Filipino American designer born and raised in San Francisco and currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design at the University of San Francisco, with a minor in Computer Science. My work is shaped by personal experiences, both uplifting and challenging, which continue to inspire the stories I tell through design. I am passionate about celebrating my Filipino heritage, and I often incorporate cultural references, traditions, and narratives into my work as a way to honor my roots and share them with others. I also draw influence from sports, music, art, technology, and hip hop culture, blending these interests into designs that reflect my identity and the communities that shape me. I am especially interested in refining a minimal approach to design, creating work that is visually striking yet thoughtful, and guided by my belief that less is more through clarity, balance, and intentional simplicity.

My thesis is about how Filipino identity in the Bay Area changes across generations, and how fashion can show that change. I want to look at how older generations often used clothing to fit in, look respectable, and survive, while younger generations use style to express themselves, show pride, and mix culture in new ways. I am interested in how clothing can hold stories about family, migration, community, and identity, not just personal taste. Through this project, I want to show that fashion can reflect both where people come from and how they choose to represent themselves now.
For my final project, I want to create a small exhibition that brings these ideas together through interviews, photography, old images, and printed design pieces. I want the work to feel personal, but also relatable to a bigger shared experience in the Filipino community. This thesis gives me a way to connect my own background, my interest in design, and my experiences growing up in the Bay Area. My goal is to create something thoughtful and visual that helps people see fashion as a way of carrying history, identity, and change.
