GABRIELLA FARRAGE
My name is Gabriella Farrage and I am a San Francisco based designer studying graphic design, with a personal focus on multimedia and conceptual work. Through my work I enjoy how visual language, image making, and different materials can be used to communicate ideas across different formats, including print, digital, and installation. Iām drawn to projects that combine multiple mediums to create more immersive and layered experiences. The majority of my pieces are informed by the world that surrounds us and oftentimes falls into the political realm. Through my work I want to spread awareness and use my designs as an instrument for change.
Tension Lines
This project explores how contemporary media systems contribute to political polarization by shaping the way information is presented and understood. While opposing sides are often framed as fundamentally different, this work suggests that many people share similar underlying concerns such as safety, stability, and quality of life but are divided through strategic messaging and language. By focusing on how narratives are constructed, the project examines how media reinforces separation rather than encouraging shared understanding. The installation translates these ideas into a physical form through two opposing figures connected by a system of ropes and pulleys. This structure represents the unseen forces, such as media institutions and systems of control, that create and maintain tension between groups.
Surrounding visual elements present fragmented and contrasting messages, reflecting how the same issues are communicated in conflicting ways. Together, these components create an immersive environment that encourages viewers to consider how their own perspectives may be shaped by the information they receive.
