Sofia Harrelson
Pronouns: she/her
Major: Design
My name is Sofia, and I’m graduating from the University of San Francisco with a major in Design and a minor in Spanish Studies. Entering USF, I didn’t anticipate studying either of these subjects– but as this chapter of my life comes to an end, I’ve realized that design and Spanish have a lot more in common than I thought. They’ve taught me to be vulnerable, pushed me out of my comfort zone, but most importantly allowed me to find a voice I didn’t know I had.
Since beginning my design journey at USF, I’ve involved myself in the community as much as I can. Most recently I’ve been honored as a PosterHeroes 2024 winner from nearly 5,000 global submissions, and grown tremendously as a Design Intern for USF’s Office of Marketing & Communications. So as I look into the future, I’ve accepted that it’s okay to be in this state of unknown once again– just as I did when I first stepped onto campus.
Unexplainable
Unexplainable is a composition of original photography and design, in an attempt at capturing the nuances of being an identical twin. The real challenge in creating this book wasn’t taking the photos or designing the spreads– well, that’s a bit of a lie but you get the point– it was deciding what elements of our lives to include. About half way through the semester and three wildly different thesis proposals later, I came to realize that conveying the experience of being a twin is impossible. So I landed on this book– a simple yet personal glimpse into the little things that make us, us.
