Femme Pharma

Since its introduction to the media, direct-to-consumer advertising for antidepressants has been heavily gender biased. Women have historically been excluded in the development of prescription drugs, from research trials to treatment. Yet, women are twice as likely to take antidepressants than men in every age group. Femme Pharma is a reimagined pharmaceutical booth that sells atypical psychotropic drugs for the modern woman.

The caricatured, hyper-feminine pharmacy plays on the stereotypes of the “mad woman”, contrasting with collected anecdotes of being a woman on mental health medication, both humorous and serious. This project leans into the absurd, offering a world where all prescriptions become over-the-counter and free samples of medication are available to try. From hysteria to trad wife, Femme Pharma aims to reflect the complexity that is the female experience of mental illness, and the shape that mental healthcare takes in our lives.
