Renae McGarry
Pronouns: she/her
Major: Fine Arts
As an artist, Renae enjoys illustrating bunnies in different settings, experimenting with native clay processing and firing, and creating functional pottery. She likes to experiment with endearing subjects by approaching them in a serious way to combine themes of childhood and adulthood simultaneously. Renae references themes of nostalgia in her artwork because she is a sentimental person. Her family inspires her greatly along with the experience of growing up in a small town.
Long Hared Lady
This mixed media installation focuses on maternal relationships through experimentation with materials and form. By combining sculptural elements with painting, a more immersive experience is cultivated for the viewer. Within the painting, the landscape elements are a reference to my hometown (Lewiston, Idaho). The figure and the rabbits within the composition are representative of my mother and members of my family. The rabbits are inspired by children’s books like Runaway Bunny by Margaret Wise Brown, and are hung directly in front of the painting. They are running to the viewer with the intention of childhood nostalgia running to meet your adult self.WET PAINT
