Maggs Zuniga
Pronouns: they/them
Major: Fine Arts
Zuniga is an artist who likes to work in multimedia pieces and projects focused on storytelling through material expansion. They use various projects to expand the mediums that they can work with, attempting to learn and develop as many skills as possible to tell the stories they want to and represent people and stories properly. Such mediums include crochet, knitting, ceramics, printmaking, tattoo design, live performance art, theatrical design and more. Zuniga creates art based on their current lived experiences, real world happenings, as well as art for and of people. They use art as a solace when things are too much, especially with all going on in the world lately, I have something I can create and put good into the world.
Then, Now, and for Life
This installation is an homage to my time at USF with my student run theater organization College Players, the place that I have felt at home at for the last four years. This installation comes just after we finished our production of Shakespeare’s Macbeth. Macbeth is a show about power, turning away from relationships and prioritizing power over people. College Players is about just the opposite. This piece is in honor of the real gifts that I gained from my experience with College Players, community, friendship, and family. The throne sits plainly on the ground, a forgotten symbol of tyranny, hovering above are a collection of faces of the people who represent the real power themselves.
To Dominic Kowarick, Mikey Johnson, Lex Reyes, and Jordan Rizzo, thank you all– anon, we’ll drink a measure.
