India Eastridge
Pronouns: she/her
Major: Fine Arts
India Eastridge is a multimedia artist from Southern California based in SF that focuses primarily on portraiture. The challenge of capturing someone’s personality beyond what they look like is an endless adventure, as well as the commentary and stories that can be told alongside the visual. She takes inspiration from medieval illuminations, the queer community, vivid colors, and contemporary social justice issues. Her work has been featured at the Thacher Gallery as well as promotional materials for cancer charity Camp Good Times.
Handwritten
These paintings are an homage to the analog methods of memory keeping and communication, namely journaling and letter-writing. The tactility, intimacy, and charm of these practices is undeniable, but also underrated today. The act of putting pen to paper allows for an entirely distinct type of expression, whether to oneself or to a recipient. In the face of federal Post Office budget cuts as well as personal lives being made increasingly public, there is merit and power in remembering the ways of the past.
