Eternal Echos

Grief and loss are something that everyone will experience at some point in their lifetime. At the age of eight, I sadly lost my Grandmother to cancer, and later, when I was twenty, I lost my Grandfather due to Covid. With both my Grandmother and Grandfather, I never had a chance to say goodbye, and I feel that both times I dealt with grief in different ways. I have always found the topic of grief interesting, primarily because everyone deals with grief and death so differently. This is why I decided to dive into grief, death, and loss for my senior design project.

Eternal Echos is a project that explores the subjects of grief, death, and loss. The project’s central component is a booklet, which focuses on helping raise awareness about the grief process. The booklet invites readers to consider how everyone deals with grief differently while encouraging discussion on death. The booklet also explores and expands on the five stages of grief. This project is informed by a few grief and loss psychologists who helped push my research further. Talking to these professionals who deal with such heavy topics and helping others navigate these situations daily helped me dig deeper into what I wanted to convey with my project. I also conducted a survey asking people I know about how they deal with grief, inviting them to open up to create a conversation around such heavy topics. What ultimately resulted is diving deep into the topic of death, loss, and grief. When creating my project, I decided to incorporate some illustration work. After some research and a very helpful critique from my classmates, I chose to illustrate flowers for each stage of grief. This allowed me to give each stage of grief a visual. I hope to share my findings and raise awareness through my senior design project.
