I am currently a senior at the University of San Francisco. I was born and raised in Bogotá, Colombia, a place that greatly inspires my work due to its rich and colorful culture. At the moment, I am passionate about product design because I enjoy learning about various topics, and product design allows me to delve into different areas of expertise. In addition to product design, I love photography; I am always taking photos and enjoy preserving moments that later become priceless memories.

We Share The Same Sky

San Francisco, renowned for its multiculturalism, offers a rich tapestry of experiences, inviting individuals from diverse backgrounds to explore its vibrant cultural landscape. Drawing from my personal journey as a Colombian transplant to the city, I initially grappled with feelings of displacement and uncertainty. However, as I immersed myself in the enchanting sunsets of San Francisco, characterized by hues of pink, purple, and yellow, I discovered a profound sense of belonging as I remembered the sunsets that I enjoyed in Colombia and that until this day hold a special place in my heart. This realization inspired the title of my project, ‘We Share the Same Sky,’ embodying the belief that irrespective of our origins, there exists a place within the city where we belong and feel at peace.

In this project, I engage in discussions with individuals regarding their hometowns, cherished memories, and experiences within San Francisco. Through these interactions, a recurring theme emerges: favored locations in the city often carry profound sentimental significance, evoking memories cherished from their past.Following numerous conversations, I collected a variety of photographs during my personal exploration of the various sites mentioned by participants. With each visit, I endeavored to perceive the city through diverse perspectives. Equipped with my camera, I aimed to encapsulate the essence of these locales, endeavoring to capture moments that resonate with the deep emotional connections articulated by those I conversed with. Subsequently, having gathered these photographs, I delved into the meticulous process of illustrating and collaging them. This phase of the project proved to be an introspective voyage, as I meticulously sifted through each image, endeavoring to interweave the memories and emotions they encapsulated into a cohesive narrative tapestry. The culmination of this creative pursuit materialized in the form of a coloring mural—a vivid reflection of the varied perspectives that color our perception of San Francisco. Personally undertaking the task of painting the skyline, I imbued it with my interpretation of the city’s essence. However, it is imperative to acknowledge that the mural remains incomplete without the contributions of others. This collaborative aspect invites individuals to infuse the city with the colors of their own experiences and imagination.

Ultimately, this project transcends mere documentation or artistic expression—it represents a profound acknowledgment of San Francisco’s multifaceted nature and a celebration of the unique individuality each of us contributes to its collective tapestry. Through this collaborative endeavor, we not only enhance the vibrancy of San Francisco but also deepen its narrative, underscoring the inherent beauty found within its diversity and the distinctive perspectives we collectively impart.
