Hi! I’m a designer from Santa Ana and I aspire to be a creative
director and own a coffee shop. I’m a first-gen college graduate
and Latino and these aspects have defined and shaped my work as a designer. I hope to share my experience with the world and inspire other Latine creatives.

FIRST-GEN

FIRST-GEN; celebrating first-generation and latine success stories, is a commemorative book of the stories of first-generation college students as well as Latine students highlighting key research and in-person interviews that shed light on the nuances of being first-gen and being Latine in higher education.

This book hopes to inspire future generations of students to see education as a means of self-reflection and social movement. The idea for the creation of a commemorative book was generated through the designer’s own experiences. Education was ultimately the tool that would ensure social movement though requiring a sacrifice by means of student debt. Therefore, this book interrogates the effects of the education system financially as well as the effects on the community of first-generation students that do graduate from higher education.
